The donation button will let you make a donation via PayPal. I'll double and forward the sum to Médecins Sans Frontières. If you don't trust this promise, it's ok by me. This is the internet after all, and there are lots of scams who try to "collect" donations on behalf of various organisations. So, if you don't want to trust a third party, please go to the MSF site of your country and make a direct donation there. The sum won't be doubled when you don't use the button, but it's still a good thing(TM) to do. And then please let me know of your donation so I can put it in the statistics. It would make my day to hear that I might have nudged someone towards making a donation. :)
If you choose to trust me and use the button, the complete sum you donate will be forwarded to Médecins Sans Frontières. I will personally cover all of the fees that PayPal will subtract from the donated amount. Additionally, I will double the sum. So for example, if you donate 5 Euros (and PayPal subtracts 0,60 Euros), MSF will receive 5x2=10 Euros.
I will submit the amount to the german division of MSF. The timing of this transaction very much depends on how frequently the donation button will be used and on the height of the donations. The reason being that for every donation that reaches MSF, they have to deal with some administrative overhead (which causes them cost). I want to keep the costs for MSF low. Therefore, I will not immediately forward every 1-Euro donation, but will wait until a "cost-effective" sum has accumulated. On the site of the german chapter of MSF, they recommend a minimum amount of 60 Euros for one-time donations. I am taking this as an indication for when a one-time donation will be cost-effective. With this background, I'm currently planning to make a donation as soon as the 60-Euro threshold (30 Euros donated) has been reached, or as soon as 2 months have passed since my last forwarded donation, whichever comes first.
Médecins Sans Frontières is providing basic and emergency medical attention to those that otherwise would have no access whatsoever to medical care. This saves lifes every day. Your donation will help saving those lifes.
And, again, feel free to not use the donation button but make a direct donation via the MSF site of your country, instead.
